On 13 May, solar energy expert from Hrvoje Požar Energy Institute (EIHP) presented the results of a feasibility study for the installation of a PV system on two facilities owned by the Starigrad Municipality: the Osmjeh Kindergarten and the Municipal Building itself. These studies were conducted within the EUKI Solar Adria project, in which the municipality of Starigrad is a pilot area of project implementation in Croatia.

The analysis of technical and economic feasibility for the kindergarten building indicates the optimal installation of 6 kW power plant that would produce around 7039 kWh of electricity per year, which would be enough to meet about 49% of its own electricity needs. With the self-consumption model and the current technology and electricity prices in 2021, the payback period is estimated at 9 years. In the case of the Municipality building, the installation of a 5.2 kW power plant with a total annual production of 6278 kWh is proposed as the optimal, which is 52% of the total electricity needs. The payback period in the aforementioned conditions is also 9 years. Considering rising energy prices, it is expected that the assumed payback period will certainly be reduced.

After the presentation of the results and discussion with the representatives of the Municipality, the kindergarten building was chosen as a more favourable option for implementation. The next step is preparation of the project documentation for the installation of a solar power plant on the chosen building.

Solar Adria project is launching in 2 pilot cities, Koper and Starigrad.
Matchmaking platform, which is going to help connect producers and roof owners, is under intense development. We are aiming to increase solar energy awarrenes in the adriatic, and connect producers with private home and roof owner, creating new opportunities for production of renewables.
